Portugal – small re-cap

Weekend spent in Portugal photographing the Finnish Men’s National team in this years World League openers against Portugal – here’s a little story of the trip.

Friday morning flight to Porto – via Zurich, on the first flight I got talking to ‘Pat’ – a Greek guy who was just going back to Greece after visiting his new born baby and wife in Worcester. So the flight went quickly as we chatted away – and then had a quick coffee at Zurich Airport before heading our separate ways.

Flight to Porto was with TAP – who had a nice touch to the Safety Demonstrations, according to the video.. 99.9999% people are not made out of wood, so need to wear a life-jacket in case the plane lands on water.. (who says you learn nothing new!!)

A break from the 'office'

Not a bad way to relax before going to work.

At the airport it was just the quick pick-up of the rental car and then off to Povoa De Varzim and the hotel. For once Sat-Nav found the place without any issues and after checking in I was off to the beach! Which isn’t a bad way to spend your time on a work trip..

Saturday morning it was once again a trip to the beach and then to the game at 4pm. No Wi-Fi at the Arena, so a quick rush back to the hotel after the game (Finnish Dead-Lines to meet) to send the pictures after a marathon five set game. Then it was off to have dinner – a local place down the road where I had the ‘Ze Special’.. the fact that it came with both pink and brown sauce, that sold it to me!! 🙂 Watched some of the Champions League Final with some locals for a while as well.

Portugal vs Finland

There was some work involved as well

Sunday was supposed to bring rain and thunder – but it all stayed away, so back to the beach for the morning. And another game of volleyball in the afternoon. Take-away pizza for dinner at the sea-front, watching the sun set into the Atlantic Ocean.

Back to the Hotel – organise a wake-up call for 3.30am and then it is off to the airport and back to Birmingham (via Frankfurt).
