It has not been a good week for Sweden

First the bitter defeat to Finland in the Ice Hockey World Championships – losing 6-1 🙂

Karen Carney - England/Birmingham City Ladies

Karen Carney celebrates her penalty.

On Tuesday evening in Oxford’s Kessam Stadium, Sweden faced England in their last warm-up game before the trip to Germany for the Championships. The teams had faced each other two days prior, behind closed doors where Sweden won 1-0. Tuesday’s game saw England with a different line-up and the home team delighted the 6000 fans by winning 2-0.

Photography-wise, it wasn’t the best of evening for myself – yes, I did get the celebration images for both goals for England (which seems to be the norm of published images here). But otherwise the game did not seem to end being captured in ‘stunning’ images – you can judge that tomorrow yourself in the image-gallery.

Only one of the Birmingham City Ladies (team that I photograph for in WSL) players got on the pitch tonight – Karen Carney – and she worked a penalty for England and then slotted it in safely to the back of the net. Image on the post is of Karen celebrating the goal.

Sometimes as a photographer you just get one of those evenings when you feel like the images just aren’t there – clients were still happy with the photos, so that was good. But it is never a nice feeling to leave a game/event feeling like the images were not to the high standard you expect from yourself…
